Video: Getting That Film Look - Dehancer Film Emulation In Davinci & Final Cut Pro X

This summer, I spent some time shooting various scenes around Reykjavik with my cameras, capturing random footage. Part of the process was experimenting with new post-production techniques to work with the material.

Like many filmmakers, I've always been intrigued by achieving that authentic film look. I recently discovered an incredible tool called Dehancer Film Emulation and decided to dive in and experiment with it extensively. The result of my testing is captured in this 9 minute video—enjoy!

In this video, I explore Dehancer, the leading film emulation plugin for DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and Premiere. Dehancer mimics the characteristics of 35mm, 16mm, and 8mm film, providing your footage with a classic authentic film vibe. The plugin also recreates elements like film grain, halation, bloom, gate weave, and the distinctive color grading of both film stocks and prints.
